Stroll gives update on his future as he assesses Aston Martin’s prospects for Spanish Grand Prix

Lance Stroll expects an announcement to be made about his Aston Martin future “soon”, with the Canadian driver yet to be confirmed at the team for 2025.

After making his debut in the sport with Williams back in 2017, Stroll spent two seasons with the Grove-based outfit before joining Racing Point – the team that would later become Aston Martin in 2021 – following the purchase of the squad by a consortium of investors led by his father, Lawrence Stroll.

The 25-year-old has remained on the line-up in the years since. While he spoke positively about Aston Martin’s future and his hopes of staying with the project last time out in Canada, Stroll is yet to officially be confirmed for next year.

Asked ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix when an announcement about his future at the team might be expected – and whether this could happen during the current race weekend or the next in Austria – Stroll answered: “Soon.”

For now the focus is on the weekend ahead in Barcelona, which will mark the first of a triple-header of races across the next three weeks.

Aston Martin arrive at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya off the back of a double points finish amid wet conditions in Montreal. Reflecting on how well the result sets the team up for the upcoming run of races, Stroll responded: “[Canada was an] intense race.

“Probably one of the most intense races I can remember from inside the cockpit. It was just constant focus and the track was like two metres wide. No margin for error. But yep, good points.

“I think we as a team, we really wanted that one and it was great to capitalise on a weekend where I think the car was a little bit more competitive than it’s been.

“Very different kind of track this weekend and going into the next few weekends – very high speed, long corners, long high-speed corners.

“Canada was very low-speed short corners and long straights. On paper [it's] not what we want for our car, but I hope we can keep the momentum up and score some points this weekend.”

While the squad are not running any further upgrades in Barcelona, Stroll added that Aston Martin are trying to bring updates to the car “as soon as possible”.
