Max Verstappen made history by taking his eighth consecutive pole position in qualifying for the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, equalling a record held by Ayrton Senna.
Verstappen’s result came as something of a surprise, the world champion having experienced some balance issues with his Red Bull during Friday’s running in Imola.

His pace was unmatched during Saturday’s qualifying hour, though, with a lap of 1m 14.746s putting him just under a tenth clear of the McLaren pair of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris in second and third respectively.
Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz rounded out the top five for Ferrari, while some early shocks saw Sergio Perez exit in Q2 and Fernando Alonso fail to progress past Q3.
